TODAY’S THEME WAS a tricky one – I am not a great shopper and I like to have one day a week when I stay at home and get things done. Today I did not venture out, so the last purchase I made was the flooring we chose for our newly decorated rooms.
(I’m not counting the pints of Guinness at a colleague’s 50th birthday last night!)
If you have followed my Photo A Day posts you may recall that the choice of flooring became a metaphor for our relationship. Inevitably, a compromise was needed to accommodate our differences.
As I prefer contemporary, minimal, practical design, I favoured laminate flooring (also beneficial as I am asthmatic).
My partner prefers traditional, decorative and cosy.
So we had a choice: plush olive carpet with a decorative detail, or natural oak laminate.
In the end we split – one room carpet, one laminate. Still practical – the hall is laminate so easier to clean, the lounge is carpet so cosy and warm.
